ALUMINI ASSOCIATION OVERVIEW



 Mar Thoma College of Science and Technology alumni association assists and encourage connection between alumni and college by keeps the members involved in the institutional development activities. The aim of the association to foster a well knitted bond with parent institution and to uphold the commitment to the institution by upbringing infrastructure facilities, contributing scholarships to students and intimating the newer trends in global scenario

Alumni Meetings:

Mar Thoma college of Science and Technology, Ayur conducted on 18th annual Alumni meet REPATRIO 2021 on 13th March at 7 PM via Google meet. Dr. Joseph Mathai, Principal, MTCST presided over the meeting. Guest of honor Mr. Akhil S Nair (Deputy Superintendent, Central Prison and correctional home Thiruvananthapuram) inaugurated the session by apportioning his experience he spent in MTCST.


Alumni contributions:

Alumni association is in the forefront to extend a helping hand to the deserved. They have taken a pioneer role in PRATHEEKSHA SCHOLARSHIP, a venture initiated by Women’s Cell of the college by donating Rs.1,25,000/-. Alumni Association of Polymer Chemistry has donated television for the financially backward students in, Kallumala colony community Centre on 24-Aug 2020 for the online studies during the Covid-19 pandemic, given by Block Panchayath President. Computer science alumni contributed a Role of Honor frame in which college can display the details of university rank holders from the college. Merit awards were distributed to the top scoring students of the institution during the alumni meetings conducted by various departments of the college. Alumni of Biotechnology Department sponsored 8 speakers for class rooms. Department of English distributed mementos for batch toppers in various academic years and the students who cleared NET examinations. Alumni Association of Department of English has donated photo frames containing Quotes from world famous personalities during Oct 2020.  Biotechnology department alumni members had contributed speakers for the class rooms.


ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY


The Alumni Association of the Dept. of Biotechnology is very active with its members hailing from within the country and abroad. The association facilitates and nurtures the lasting friendship between the former students of the Department through Alumni meetings organized by the Department. It initiates steps to recognize outstanding achievements, provide scholarships for deserving students, cooperate with college authorities for development of the college and organizes programs with the help of former students in order to benefit the students studying in the institution.


Department of Biotechnology commenced in the year 2001 with B.Sc Botany and Biotechnology as UG course. During 2005,the Department has commenced M.Sc Biotechnology and upgraded as a Post graduate Department.So far, the students have achieved 27 prestigious university Ranks under the courses of the department. The Department is very proud to see that, many of its former students are working at Government and Private sector positions within India as well as in many of the foreign countries. The Department is so proud that many of its students has received PhD, UGC - CSIR, NET etc.


The Post graduate Department of Biotechnology organized an alumni meet “Nostalgia 2019” for all batches on 28thSeptember 2019 at ETTARC Silver Jubilee Mini Auditorium. About 40 Alumni with their families participated in the meet. The day was filled with chirping voices as the alumni recalled the memories of their good old days of fun, emotions, laughter and entertainment. Alumni members made contributions to the college developmental activities in various capacities.


ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE


Computer Science Department has a  strong alumni  association, consists of the former batches of Computer Science department from 1995 onwards and former faculties. Department is in contact with alumnas and conducting alumni meets. We the department as a whole  took the initiative for connecting them through telephones and created whatsapp groups of each batch. By using this groups further contacts were made. An alumni meet we conducted in our department is on 14/12/19 and it was at Silver Jubilee Auditorium. Alumni meet named REDO-2019 made many suggestions  for  supporting the department and students. Planned to conduct alumni meet every year inorder to reconnect with alumni’s and  to celebrate their success and various achievements of the college..In  this meet they  select  representatives from each group.


One of our alumni Mr.Bijin C George(2001-2004 Batch)  contributed a Roll of Honour in memory of his beloved father Late  Mr.C George Thannichalil.   On  December 4th 2021,the unveiling  ceremony was conducted. The plaque was placed at the main entrance of the college and rank holder’s names are written on it. This function was blessed with the presence of Rt .Rev.Joseph Mar Barnabas Episcopa.Dr.K.Danielkutty sir Secretary,Marthoma College of Science and Technology give the inaugural message.  Principal Dr.Joseph Mathai ,  HoD ,Mrs.Shanu Thomas, ETTARC members, HoDs of other departments were presented there.Bijin’s mother was also present in that occasion  and the ceremony concluded by the prayer of his lordship Rt .Rev.Joseph Mar Barnabas Episcopa.


Alumnas of Computer Science placed in various positions at Multi National Companies.They give support and strength to the department.They inform us about Placements drives  and job opportunities  in their firms ,thereby help the current batches to be placed.They give financial support to   economically weaker students for continuing their studies.

Our alumni always provides a helping hand to our department We the  Computer Science Department  feel proud of our alumni and it is one of the feathers in our cap.


ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS


The formal inauguration of the Educational Scholarship Scheme was held on 12 February 2021 at 2 pm in the MTCST Silver Jubilee Auditorium. The Principal, Dr. Joseph Mathai inaugurated the Pratheeksha - Educational Scholarship Scheme of Women Cell,MTCST.Women Cell Convener Ms.Shanu Thomas explained the implementation of the project. Alumni representative of 1998-2001B.Sc Electronics batch, Mr. Regish Daniel Wilson cherished their college life. The Alumni then handed over a check for Rs.125000 to the Principal Dr.Joseph Mathai, Women cell convener Ms.Shanu Thomas and Women cell treasurer Ms.Sherly Daniel. Dr. Danielkutty,Secretary of ETTARC, Mr. M. Abraham, Treasurer of ETTARC, Mr. K. O. Johnson, Head of the Department ,Polymer Chemistry, IQAC Coordinator Dr. Shaji John, NSS Program Officer Mr. John Eapen, MTCST Alumni Secretary Mrs. Jensy John congratulated Pratheeksha on the occasion. Ms. Tintu T. Kuriakose, Head of the Department of Electronics recorded the welcome and Geethu Chandra student of BBA  delivered the vote of thanks.


ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: DEPARTMENT OF POLYMER CHEMISTRY

Alumni pave the way for sustaining the credibility of an institution in words and deeds. Being an alumnus of Mar Thoma College of Science and Technology is worth to cherish because the College, from the inception itself, upholds the dreams and ambitions of the student community.  B.Sc Polymer Chemistry course is worthwhile to be mentioned in this regard, since it is one among the three-degree courses sanctioned in the beginning era of our college. The Alumni Association of Polymer Chemistry Department was inaugurated in 1999. The prime aim of the Association is to foster the needs of the students in academic and extracurricular activities. It extends a helping hand to develop infrastructure facilities and to institute scholarships to students from economically weaker section.  In 2012 M.Sc Polymer Chemistry course was started and the Alumni Association strides forward elegantly with the enrollment of post graduates.


ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

The concept of alumni association was evolved with an aim of building a bridge between college life and career life so that the fresher graduates are made proactive to face the current challenges of the competitive professional world.

The P.G. Department of English has a dynamic alumni association since 2017. As of now, we have only six batches contributing to our Alumni Association, since our department started functioning from 2013 onwards. In this short span of time, we have meritorious performances from our alumni which involves NET, JRF and other academic achievements. Some noteworthy contributions from our alumni include Portraits of English authors and book donation to the college library. We are proud to have one of our alumni A.K. Stephin working as a reporter in Manorama News channel.

We had an Alumni Meet in 2019 where most of them gathered and shared their memories and professional experiences which motivated other students of the department.



ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: DEPARTMENT OF BBA

The mission of the Mar Thoma College BBA Alumni Association is To engage and foster strong lifelong bond between the department and it’s alumni. The alumni Association will work to promote, maintain and establish networking and programs that will represent the interest of all alumni.

Each alumnus is part of a diverse, ever growing, worldwide community of above 200 ranging from the batch of 2013 to 2018.

The work of the BBA Alumni Association is carried out by both teachers and alumni volunteers in coordination. The Head of the Department acts as the Chairman of the association, an appointed faculty will be in charge of coordinating the activities with selected volunteers of the association.


Formation & Annual Meetings:

Mar Thoma College BBA students possess worldly perspectives, critical thinking ability, leadership and communication skills, and a will to challenge the status quo. These qualities not only help students get admission in top notch universities but also make them desirable by employers.

The concept of BBA Alumni Association evolved for needs from both the ends, i.e. academicians and professionals, in the aim of building a bridge between college life and career life, so that the fresher graduates are made proactive to face the current challenges of competitive professional world. Both the ends shall work hand in hand to help each other for achieving the goal. The idea took shape and formation of BBA Alumni Association turned into reality in the year 2017 June 15th.

The alumni association meet once a year and via conference/online call at other times. Interested alumni may volunteer for alumni meeting by contacting the Chairman or Coordinator of the association.

The Alumni association is moving ahead, with selfless intentions for the growth and development of college students and society around. The association will continuously work towards its vision for a better tomorrow…..
